Coming soon: The River Man Dance Show
Directed and computer-animated by Bostjan Miha Jambrek
A spectacular dance show directed by Bostjan Jambrek, featuring the dancers of the
dancing club Urska Ljubljana and stunning computer animation. The director's version
of the famous ballad is based in part on the
River Man composition but this time
the heroine makes first contact with the supernatural being in her early childhood, trying
to reach him using every means possible, from music to a message in a bottle. Later on
in her life, the story gets more and more dreamlike, as she takes her unworthy suitors
up to the clouds only to cast them down. Then an unknown masked stranger takes her even higher,
all the way to the moon. And that's only half of it!
Extra music - beginning and middle part - was written for this production.
Stay tuned!
The Visitor (Obiskovalec, 2004)
by Bostjan Miha Jambrek, starring Veronica Cencur, original music and
digital sound editing by Aziraphal
The Movie. A ghost story movie about a girl in whose house strange
things are happening, starting with the dark old attic and spreading downstairs
during a stormy night ... Soon it becomes apparent that it is the apparition of her
late boyfriend, who has come to demand . . . .
The Music. The movie contains no dialogue and the soundtrack supports the
excellent actress, photography and masterful buildup of the scary atmosfere
throughout the whole movie, ranging from orchestral horror style to relaxing
synthesizer resolution of the ending.
Faces of Africa (Obrazi Afrike, 1999-2001, broadcast on Slovenian National TV 2002)
by Bostjan Miha Jambrek and Klemen Belhar
The Movie. Life in the cities of Zambia is hard, cruel, and often short; each sixth man seen
in this film has already died of AIDS. In this dark world of crime, corruption and
dangerous superstitions two Slovenian catholic missionaries, Stanko Rozman and Miha
Drevensek, struggle to help the people, bring them awareness and a better tomorrow.
The Music. Quite some researching went into the production of this soundtrack. Some
tracks are synth imitations of native Mbira rhythms where the keyboards were played using
only thumbs to get the authentic feel. The theme of Father Rozman's mission is based on South
African Mbube singing. But the far most impressive piece is the Latin Biblical passage of
Matthew 28:18 carried by the stirring vocals of Metka Hrabar.
The Collector (Zbiralec, 2000, broadcast on Slovenian National TV in 2003) by Samo Fabcic
and Bostjan Miha Jambrek
The Movie. In the last days before the nuclear apocalypse a disturbed audiophile is
indulging in his perverse hobby: collecting the recordings of the dying screams of animals.
As those can no longer satisfy him, he begins looking for the ultimate recording... Based on
the short story by Charles Beaumont.
The Music. The music for this one is heavily experimental, it moves in jazz and ambient
waters with many real instruments thrown in: didgeridoo, jewharps, guitar, a large assortiment
of wooden pipes and - especially scary is the use of a Chinese two-stringed fiddle Erhu that
can produce perhaps the most annoying sound in the entire universe.
A Route Less Travelled (Manj uhojene poti, 2001) by Bostjan Miha Jambrek
The Movie. The bicyclist Fredi Virag faces the most difficult bike race in the world,
RAAM (Race Across America). The difficult route defeated him the last year, will he make it
this time? Beside the road, American history and values are observed by the critical eye of
the director's camera.
The Music. For original music in this movie we decided to move away from my usual
electronic style and use a majestic orchestral soundtrack. The themes are available from
the track list on the right ... enjoy!
A Town in the Heart of the Karavanke Mountains (Mesto v osrcju Karavank, 2002) by Bostjan Miha Jambrek
The Movie. A documentary about uncounted charms of the Slovenian town called Trzic
and its surroundings. Its rich history is traced from the foundation in 1492, to the
great fire that almost destroyed the town, the horrors of the Nazi concentration camp
Mauthausen, and the important festivals that take place there today.
The Music. After "A Route Less Travelled" I returned to my trademark synth
feel again. The themes are based on Trzic anthem: from full synth arrangemet to various
pieces based on motives and improvisations from the anthem. We also used my Wendy Carlos-esque
electronic arrangement of "Osanna in excelsis" from W.A.Mozart's Requiem.
George the Starfish Elephant (1997) by Marko 'Flying Dog Fish' Kavcic
The Game. A platform game featuring George, a strange animal
created from an elephant and a starfish in a lab accident. Its main
characteristics are huge levels, top secret areas, lots of stuff to
collect, insane bonus levels, cute animation, lots of monster characters
and peanut ammo to shoot at them. The behavior of the enemies was improved
using genetic algorithms. George 2: Quest for the Golden YoYo -
the next version of this game is coming, but nobody knows when. It
will probably be for MS Windows using DirectX and the characters will
probably be 3D rendered.
The Music. Several songs and inserts were made for this cool game
(DOS version) with the legendary FastTracker 2 and painfully converted
into .S3M format.
Download: The game is available at FlyingDogFish.org. It works perfectly in the excellent (and free!) DOS emulator, DosBox.
Children's Stories
Tales for Lana (Pravljice za Lano, 2001 / 2004) by Jelka Kadunc
The Stories. A collection of fun and educational fairy tales about Cat
and Mouse discovering various things: The opera, the computer, the paper
factory and much more. German translation is in progress, hopefully we'll
see the English version one day.
The Music. A theme that would appeal to little kids was needed for
the cassette version; After I thought of imitating the voices of Cat and
Mouse with the synths, the road was clear. The main theme can be heard on
the track list - see Cat and Mouse Theme.
Update (2004). A second batch of stories was written and published
by Jelka Kadunc, this time
with the inquisitive Doggy in the leading role, discovering such wonders as the
electricity generator, golf playing, the big city, and more! Here are two audio demos
from the new cassette:
A foray into trance waters; an interstellar voyage at Warp Factor 9 with author's trademark harmonic development written all over it. #1 Hit on SoundClick's Electronica charts in Jan 2008!
A satirical military march. Symphonic with a synth intermezzo, it's a short song but makes up for it with intense power. Similar in style (and perhaps inspired by) Carmina Burana (O Fortuna), Danny Elfman, Laibach and Rhapsody. #1 Hit on SoundClick's Choral charts in July 2007!
A sad oriental electro-symphonic chillout, inspired by episode 10 of the anime series Rozen Maiden: Träumend, in which one of the seven animated clockwork dolls, called Hina Ichigo, comes to her bitter end.
A romantic ambiental song, painting a landscape of both pleasant warmth and icy sparkling crystals. Incessantly evolving music of rich textures and harmonies, plus a Zero Copy-Paste certified soulful performance!
A pleasant humorous piece for string quartet with some 20th century tricks but nothing drastically 'avantgarde'. Arranged for the soft sampler 'Garritan Personal Orchestra'. [more...]
A rich sounding new-age rhapsody feturing very diverse instruments including jawharp and vocoder; but especially notable are the Theremin-generated melodies and effects.
