Why does it Feel so Right, KVR contest entry (theme - Blues)
|
Freedom Unlimited
2009
A great New Year's present for me, the album "Freedom Unlimited" was very kindly printed in a limited edition by my employer, the renowned software company Halcom as a present at the New Year's party. For the occasion five of the most successful KVR entries along with "Eliza's Secret Dream" were remastered and a new song written - "The Ghost of Athens" with a guest star, Jerry Wright (a.k.a. Jerru) on the lead guitar.

The Little Match Girl
2006
Now available from CDBaby and
Apple
iTunes. (Track 2 also from SoundClick)
The latest album takes the author's style of electronic-classical combination to the highest symphonic level to date and adds another dimension, for this time the vocals play a prominent part. The songs range from full-blown heroic Hollywoodesque sound of the opening "Ave Triumphator", majestic choirs and four-voiced Fugue of the "Mirrors of Apollo", the meditative dreamsynth and lead vocal of "Sanctuary" to the almost half an hour worth of musical drama in the main work, the electrosymphonic poem "The Little Match Girl", based on the famous stirring and tragic tale by H. C. Andersen; it should be experienced as a musical soundtrack to a silent film or animation... [more...]

In Search of the Harmony Horizon
1999
News update: This album is now available for free download in glorious 256 kbps!
You can even print out the CD covers, the links are down below.
These are the collected works of the years 1997-99. Besides the four independent compositions
there is the most important project of that time, the Synth Suite "In Search of the Harmony
Horizon". Its five movements span five different musical styles, from the half-heard opening
strains of the Overture to the awesome power of the Finale, but with a common thread - the
recurring melody phrase that appears sometimes as the lead, sometimes in the background.
The music from this album appears daily on Slovenian National TV as background for short intermezzos
Slovenia Unrevealed (Skrita Slovenija) created by B. M. Jambrek.
Composer credited as Matej Hrovat.

Endless Moment
1996
These songs were written and performed in the years 1994-1996 with the author's first synth,
the Roland E-36 (and no, absolutely no auto-accompaniments and similar cheats used).
The main work is the synth Sonata "Endless Moment" with traditional sonata form in
the first movement and allegro - andante - rondo:allegro movements, though the music
style moves between New Age and instrumental rock. Other compositions from this period
are: Prelude & 4-voiced Fugues in e minor, the long romantic piano-driven Nocturno,
a weird combination of atonal and Irish music Morrigan and, for sentimental reasons,
the first ever E-36 composition Cube One. They were preserved on audio cassette only and
later restored to CD, so forgive the bad quality of audio samples.
Note: A Roland GS-format compatible soundcard or synth is needed to play the MIDI files!

Prelude, Intermezzo and Fugue for Synths and Mini-Theremin
2001
Written for the Young Slovenian Composers' concert in 2001, this composition is a mix of
Old and New in several aspects. First there is the composition style, which ranges
from rock/jazz to baroque counterpoint, then the instrument choice; the song features, apart
from the synths of the latest digital era, the first electronic musical instrument in
history - the Theremin.
Note: The Theremin can also be heard in the song Invisible Forest Creatures, available from the
song list on the right.
To be re-mixed and published in full one day. Stay tuned...

The monthly contest at KVR Music Cafe
2007-2011
Here is the collection of entries for the monthly contest at KVR forum. Many of them are experiments in various music genres that are non-typical for the author, others are exercises in refinement of the improvisation and production technique. Some were produced rather quickly in single late-evening sessions, some are fruits of epic inspiration hits and up to 20 manhours of work.

Agave Azul (solo piano), a more modern style reminiscent of Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit suite. Unfortunately, no cigar.

The Pianoteq Contest
2007
The Wings of Passion (solo piano), Rachmaninov-influenced romantic style that displays everything from string-busting
fortissimo outbursts to gentle pianissimo lines but with nonstop concert virtuosity, was written for the
Pianoteq license contest. Unfortunately, no cigar.
The Wings of Passion rendered with Pianoteq virtual piano.
The Wings of Passion rendered with GPO Steinway piano sample.

New Age
(REMASTERED - NOVEMBER 2009!) A poignant and very emotional piano/symphonic song. No copypasta or mouse-entered notes; enjoy the soul of a real performance, so rare in today's electronic music. Reminiscent of Vangelis' piano improvisations such as Prelude from Voices or the final movement of El Greco.

A satirical military march. Symphonic with a synth intermezzo, it's a short song but makes up for it with intense power. Similar in style (and perhaps inspired by) Carmina Burana (O Fortuna), Danny Elfman, Laibach and Rhapsody. #1 Hit on SoundClick's Choral charts in July 2007!
