Live at a Charity Concert (2009)
Slovenian Philharmonic Hall, September 2009

This year I had the honor once again to be invited to participate in a charity concert organized by Jelka Kadunc, a fundraiser for a Rwandan school and hospital run by Slovenian Sisters of Mercy: Vesna Hiti, Bogdana Kavčič, Vida Gerkman and Anka Burger. The sisters ignored many threats to their lives during the Rwandan civil war to save the helpless, and to this very day stay among the poor, showing them a way to a better tomorrow. Their dedication and courage was the inspiration for the Two Impressions of Rwanda for solo piano that were performed live (by me) that evening.

Impressions of Rwanda - Part One

Impressions of Rwanda - Part Two

The songs portrait both the horrors of the war, the rise of the military and the suffering of the refugees, and the new hope for life, song and dance brought by the Sisters.

There's also a video available. Unfortunately the camera was set up to capture the solo singers at the event so you can't see much of the piano action

The author also composes "serious" classical music for solo piano and small ensembles credited with his real name "Matej Hrovat". Occasionally he performs his pieces live at various event as pianist. He organizes biannual piano recitals performing his own compositions plus challenging masterpieces of old masters (Beethoven piano sonatas, popular works by Liszt, Chopin, Ravel and other composers).

Conductor and artistic director: Aleksandar SPASIĆ

Thank you all very much for making this experience possible!

******************

A pleasant humorous piece for string quartet with some 20th century tricks but nothing drastically "avantgarde". The title, by the way, IS symbolic, but has got absolutely nothing to do with deep existential dilemmas and such.
Available both as MIDI and MP3 file, arranged for the soft sampler Garritan Personal Orchestra.

Agave Azul for solo piano (2008)
2007

A more modern song somewhat reminiscent of Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit suite was written for the piano contest at Garritan Forum.

Agave Azul rendered with GPO Steinway

The Wings of Passion for solo piano (2007)
2007

A song in Rachmaninov-influenced romantic style that displays everything from string-busting fortissimo outbursts to gentle pianissimo lines but with nonstop concert virtuosity, was written for the Pianoteq license contest.

The Wings of Passion rendered with Pianoteq virtual piano.

The Wings of Passion rendered with GPO Steinway piano sample.

The Art of the Duel for solo piano (2006)
This song is dedicated to the two giants of piano prog rock who inspired it, Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson.

Fantasia Appassionata No. 3 for solo piano (2006)
The third piece in what is to be a compilation of six, all of which combine sad lyrical motives with powerful fortissimo outbursts. This one is written in a more impressionistic style than the neo-baroque number Two.

Fantasia Appassionata No. 2 for solo piano (2000)
Title says it all really. A piano piece as I like them: Full of powerful and fast outbursts. Some influence of Rachmaninoff can be heard.

Scherzo Alla Paprica for solo piano (2002)
A shorter virtuoso piano song, spiced with humor and contrasts.
